Three Palm Software expands HL7 support in WorkstationOne.

Los Gatos, 27 November, 2011

Breast imaging software developer Three Palm Software has upgraded its WorkstationOne mammography interpretation software with additional HL7 support and new features, and is showing the new release at the RSNA 2011 meeting in Chicago.

The upgrade expands the bidirectional capabilities of the existing standards-based HL7 interface. This allows a RIS worklist to control the viewing of mammography cases and for automatic propagation of reporting information from the workstation into the RIS.

The new release also includes enhanced tomosynthesis viewing capabilities, which are seamlessly integrated into the standard mammography workflow. 3D navigation icons visually assist navigation through each slice of a digital breast tomosynthesis volume, and the slab rendering allows the user to interactively change the compositing of multiple slices as the system cines through the stacks, according to the company.

Another new feature is support for multiview cross-correlation arcs that can be used to interactively inspect suspicious regions in two or more views within one study or across current and prior studies, based on the distance of those regions from the nipple position.

The new release also includes support for 3-megapixel-based 9-mega independent subpixel drive displays, a combination that offers cost savings without compromising image quality or functionality, according to Three Palm.

Three Palm Software Integrates Volpara Breast Density Software

Los Gatos California and Wellington New Zealand, 10 November 2011

Three Palm Software of California, USA and Matakina International Limited of Wellington, New Zealand, today announced that WorkstationOne, the cutting edge breast imaging workstation from Three Palm Software, is now seamlessly integrated with the Volpara breast density software from Matakina. Volpara is designed to assist radiologists by objectively and automatically assessing a woman’s breast tissue density.

The integration provides radiologists a most efficient and effective mechanism to utilize the automatically generated breast density produced by Volpara. WorkstationOne already provides an easy user interface to record the breast density assessed by the radiologists during mammographic interpretation. With the integration, the automated breast density from Volpara is presented as an initial assessment, while allowing the radiologist to over-write the automated assessment if occasionally it is different to the radiologist’s assessment.

“Our partnership with Three Palm Software will make objective breast density readings available to radiologists with a much more efficient workflow than ever before” said Dr Ralph Highnam, CEO of Matakina International Ltd. “We are very pleased to be bringing this exciting new technology to the user via our state-of-the-art workstation” said Dr. Patrick Heffernan, CEO of Three Palm Software.

Volpara offers radiologists a reliable and cost-effective tool to automatically generate objective volumetric breast density values, the FDA-cleared Volpara breast imaging software computes volumetric breast tissue density from digital screening mammograms.   Volpara software assists radiologists by providing objective, automatic and robust measurement of volumetric breast tissue density and is currently available for Hologic and GE digital mammography systems with validation of integration with other systems underway.

Three Palm Software Supports 3MP-based Mammography Viewing System

Los Gatos, California, 26 October, 2011

Three Palm Software today announced the 1.5.4 release of its mammography reading software – WorkstationOne™. This release includes support for Totoku’s 3MP-based MS31i2 monitors. The Totoku MS31i2 monitors are capable of 9 mega pixel resolution when driven by software that implements the ISD (independent sub-pixel drive) mechanism, and this new release of WorkstationOne provides this capability. The MS31i2 is FDA 510(k) cleared for use in Digital Mammography.

“WorkstationOne is the most comprehensive dedicated breast imaging workstation I have ever used” said Dr. Robert Lapidus from US Radiology Partners in Lafayette, Louisiana, who is the first user of this 3MP-based mammography viewing system.  “It is a multimodality system geared for breast imaging.  The developers clearly did their research in order to implement a user-friendly platform with all the necessary tools and hanging protocols breast imagers need in order to get the job done.   And finally, a full mammography workstation is available at a reasonable price point because of Three Palm’s integration with Totoku’s new 3MP monitors with ISD, which have been FDA cleared for digital mammography.  These displays are a third the cost of most 5MP configurations, without compromising functionality or performance.”

WorkstationOne will be shown at RSNA 2011 in the Three Palm Software booth #8008 in the North Building. Totoku and US Electronics will be showing the MS31i2 monitors at booth #2629 in the South Building.

WorkstationOne is a full-featured breast imaging workstation, with an emphasis on efficient reviewing workflow and expert viewing methodologies such as Tabar’s systematic viewing masks. WorkstationOne supports IHE mammography image profile and the display of CAD markers as well as GSPS graphic annotation. WorkstationOne is a software product that can be installed on an off-the-shelf general purpose computer with one or two gray-scale high resolution monitors and one color monitor. The gray-scale high resolution monitors have to be FDA cleared to be used in the US.

Three Palm Software, Totoku and USEI Announce Partnership

Los Gatos, California and Minneapolis, Minnesota, 1 September, 2011

Three Palm Software, Totoku and US Electronics today announced that they have signed a partnership agreement, which will result in the development of a package of Totoku MS31i2 monitors with the WorkstationOne software from Three Palm Software. The Totoku MS31i2 monitors are capable of 9 mega pixel resolution when driven by software that implements the ISD (independent sub-pixel drive) mechanism. WorkstationOne will provide this capability.

“Using ISD technology with Totoku MS31i2 and advanced mammography viewing software from Three Palm Software, the combined review and diagnostic system defines new standards of care by delivering superior resolution and clarity for improved accuracy in breast cancer screening and diagnosis”, said Mikio Hasegawa, General Manager of Sales and Marketing at Totoku.

The MS31i2 is FDA 510(k) cleared for the use of Digital Mammography.

Prime time for 10MP mammo reading is here

Los Gatos, 8th August, 2011

Three Palm Software is supporting reading of digital mammograms on a single 10 mega-pixel high resolution monitor configuration at the workshop “16th Annual Mammography in Santa Fe” which is being held this week. All the major monitor vendors in the US are participating at the workshop by providing display systems. Those vendors include NDSsi/DOME, Totoku/USEI, EIZO, WIDE/Double black Imaging, Barco etc. The 10MP mammography workstations will continue to be used in other mammography teaching courses, such as Dr. Tabar’s course in Scottsdale this October.

The use of a 10MP seamless 30″ display is the next advancement for digital mammography. The bezel-less configuration of a single monitor helps to reduce eye fatigue for radiologists. With the unobstructed viewing space, Three Palm Software can implement a true chestwall to chestwall hanging protocol without any distracting gap and border between the mammography images. The gap-less hanging protocol is an effective layout for breast cancer detection when looking for a subtle asymmetric density or subtle density changes when comparing current and prior mammograms. The wide-spread availability of 10MP monitors makes this a reality now.
